Good Form Preview - Sunday Night at Melton

THE GAME PLAN for Melton – with Michael Polster (@mickpolster)

These restricted meetings are always difficult to sort out and tonight’s card is no exception with no stand outs or races I really want to get involved in from an exotic point of view so I think the best plan of attack is to back a few each way at some value, have a crack at a wide Quaddie and take a punt on the Ross Sugars-trained debutante Annacondar as outlined below.  Here we go!

VALUE BETS

Exsalont (Race 4 no. 11) $7.00             $15 win x $35 place
This bloke hasn’t been dangerous of late but he will get his chance to improve tonight as he gets into this contest well with the claim for Monique Burnett and with some pace expected in the early stages I think he can run home strongly and be hard to hold out at the business end.

Hezfullarunning (Race 7 no. 7) $13.00          $15 win x $35 place
I know this guy has drawn widely and he has been restrained from similar draws of late but I’m hoping John Newberry decides to press forward with him tonight as I think he is a sneaky chance of getting the lead off Incoming Flight, who should be the pilot early, but he normally hands up over the longer journey.  A bit of guess work involved here but if it goes to plan then I think he can be hard to beat at generous odds.

Artoc (Race 7 no. 11) $11.00                $15 win x $35 place
He hasn’t won for a long time but his form is better than it reads on paper as he wasn’t disgraced in much stronger races on this circuit behind Thirsty Mach and Our Blackbird before running home nicely into sixth spot behind Gotalotofspeed (winner again since) at Ballarat last time so with the big drop in class tonight he is definitely worth a wager.

QUADDIE
3,4,5,6,7,10,11,12/ 2,3,9,11/ 2,3,7,9/ 1,4,7,8,11,12.  $100 gets you 13.02%

STAR TRIALLER

Annacondar (Race 3 no. 6) $3.20
Northern Luck gelding on debut for Ross Sugars who is sure to be well-fancied first up going by his impressive trial success on this circuit 13 days ago where he rated 2:03.0, won by a decent margin and slipped home in pleasing splits of 57.5/28.3.
