Good Form Preview - Empire Stallions VSS Night 1

The Game Plan for VSS Trotting Finals night – with Jason Bonnington (@jasonbonnington)
Half of tonight’s Tabcorp Park programme is made up of Vicbred Super Series Trotting finals and it’s no surprise that they represent most of the night’s best betting races. The shorties tonight will be very short but if we target the night’s only two ‘morals’ in an All-Up, isolate them pretty heavily in Quads and then concentrate on a quartet of ‘Money Races’ we should come out on top.

Best Bets/ All-Up
These two horses will be even shorter than they should be, but we can still make folding off them. Right now the combo will pay $1.82 on Fixed Odds so have a decent crack and it should be a pretty painless win.

Im Stately (Race 4 no. 5) $1.30 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
Put simply, this bloke is head and shoulders above his contemporaries and the scary thing is that he just keeps getting better. His main rivals in Miracle (3) does draw inside him but if he goes as well as he can he’ll win this for sure.

Spidergirl (Race 6 no. 1) $1.45 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
Despite her last start loss to Maori Time (4) when she had everything go her way this is the best juvenile trotting filly in the land and whether she boots through and holds her rivals wide as expected or lobs handy in the run she still looks almost impossible to beat tonight.

The Money Races/ Trifecta-Fest
Race 3
The draws have really conspired to make this where the leaders and those following the pegs will be greatly advantaged, but having said that if there’s one horse who can sweep home from the rear and win it’s I See Icy Earl (11). Play the two Trifectas below and hope that Backas Cobber (1) can hold the early lead as expected.

1,6,8,11 Boxed. $24 gets 100%
1,6,8,11/ 1,6,8,11/ 2,9,10. $26 gets 72.22%

Race 4
As outlined above, Im Stately (5) should be winning this with any luck at all and so long as he doesn’t get ground into the dust Miracle (3) is just as likely to finish second, or third at very worst. There is some chance that one of these two will make a mistake but these juvenile trotters are very professional & it’s not worth our while to play too many savers.

5/ 3/ 2,6,9 13. $40 gets 1000%
5/ 2,6,9,13/ 3. $10 gets 250%

Race 6
I’ve also outlined my confidence in Spidergirl (1) above and if she leads there a couple of chances to fill a place but if Maori Time (4) crosses her there is only one and that is her. Take the below Trifectas and you should cover all possible scenarios.

1/ 4/ 5,8,9,11,12. $40 gets 800%
1/ 11/ 4,5,8,9,12. $10 gets 200%
Race 7
This race is the highlight of the night for me, with four genuine chances with an almost equal chance of success. I think they’ll run the Trifecta between them but I’m playing a saver just in case something unexpected happens in the run.

1,8,10,11 Boxed. $24 gets 100%
1,8,10,11/ 1,8,10,11/ 3,4,6,7,12. $ $26 gets 43.33%

Quaddies
5/ 1/ 1/ 1,8,10,11. $40 gets 1000%
5/ 6,7/ 1/ 1,8,10,11. $40 gets 500%
5/ 1/ 4,11/ 1,8,10,11. $10 gets 125%
5/ 6,7/ 4,11/ 1,8,10,11. $10 gets 62.5%

Tabcorp Park Trainer Talk – David Aiken

Best Chance
Spidergirl (Race 6 no.1) $1.45 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“I think Spidergirl has really come ahead since racing the elite trotters, at home atleast she’s gone to an extra level.

“We hadn’t really pushed her out until the night we lobbed behind Habibti and she is coming out better now so we’d be hoping to hold them out.”

Others
Brylin Crescent (Race 2 no.4) $4.50
“She’s on the right track now and she’s got a good draw which always helps. She likes the short trip and her last two runs have been very good, we’re very happy with her at the moment.

“It’s a lot tougher than what she’s been racing but around GSS time she best Waikare Patricia so she should be competitive in this race.
Cold Sister (Race 3 no. 6) $4.20
“She went really well in the Cranbourne Trotters Cup. She was probably a little unlucky early when that horse galloped she missed a spot that would have put her three-back the fence and she would have finished a lot closer. She really hit the line hard when she got out so we know she is still flying.

“It’s an even race but I can’t see why she won’t be in the finish, she’s got a little bit of gate speed so we will probably come out and have a little look early
Dizzyinterest (Race 6 no.11) $16 TAB Fixed Odds – Click here to bet on this horse now
“Hopefully we can get the jump on her, last time we had to sit outside the other filly and got beat a head so if we can lead or atleast be in front of her I think she can turn the tables.

“We’ve seen her standout through most of her career but Maori Time is really and up and comer. I watched her first race win at Maryborough and she continues to impress me so I’m just glad we’ve drawn inside her this week
“She actually ran a really good time in her heat and she has a tonne of ability.

“Her manners can let her down at times but when she decides to settle down she’s a really nice filly. If you take Spidergirl and Maori Time out of the race, I definitely think she’s in the next group.”
